Create a Smoother, Slimmer Profile at Chicago’s Iteld Plastic Surgery

The neck is a part of the body where signs of aging tend to develop early, so if you feel like you’re seeing some sagging and wrinkles there, you’re probably not imagining them. A neck lift at Chicago’s Iteld Plastic Surgery is an effective way of addressing laxity and creases on the jawline and neck for both men and women.

About a Neck Lift

Slim and elegant neck contours are typically associated with youth, health, and vitality. If you like those words—and, more importantly, like those words associated specifically with you—a neck lift can be a great way to keep them coming your way.

Also sometimes referred to as a lower rhytidectomy, a neck lift is a surgical procedure performed to remove excess sagging skin and fat below the face.

How a Neck Lift Works

Loss of collagen and weakening connective tissues cause wrinkles or creases to form over time, while more prominent vertical bands develop on the neck. A combination of sun damage, the constant force of gravity, and the breakdown of collagen and elastin also cause skin to sag and tissues below the surface to migrate downward. Genetics, stress, and environmental assailants also contribute to weakening skin.

A neck lift is a step-by-step process that can include Dr. Lawrence Iteld removing or redistributing fat, trimming excess skin, repositioning tissue, re-draping skin, and tightening the platysma muscle. Liposuction is sometimes used for extracting stubborn fat cells.

Dr. Iteld aims to rejuvenate the neck area in a natural-looking way to provide a more refreshed and youthful look without changing someone’s fundamental appearance.

The incisions Dr. Iteld makes depend on whether the patient is having a traditional neck lift or a limited incision neck lift. For a traditional lift, the incision would be hidden along the hairline in the “sideburn” area and around the natural contours of the ear. Another incision may sometimes be placed below the chin. For a limited incision lift, the incisions are shorter and only go around the ear. In either case, sutures are used to close the incisions once the work is done.

Our Unique Pre- and Post-Surgery Procedure

We have created our unique pre- and post surgical protocol with the goal to maximize your results.

Prior to your surgery, we start with an assessment from our aesthetician. She will put you on a personalized skin care routine to prepare your skin for surgery. This usually includes nonsurgical procedures, such as microneedling or chemical peels, and appropriate products. Post-surgery, you’ll continue to meet with her for your skin assessment, product recommendations, and nonsurgical procedures.

Neck Lift FAQs

During your consultation, Dr. Iteld will explain the benefits of the procedure and help you decide whether it’s the right fit for you. You’ll discuss your medical history with him so that he can ensure you’re in a good state of health before surgery. Patients are asked to stop smoking for at least several weeks prior to their procedure and to avoid certain medications.

Patients can expect some swelling, bruising, or tightness after a neck lift, but this is completely normal. Bandages are used to help control the swelling, and a thin tube might be also needed to drain any blood or fluid. During your recovery, try to keep your head elevated and straight.

Dr. Iteld will provide instructions for incision care. Patients won’t usually experience much discomfort, especially if they avoid certain activities, such as heavy lifting or twisting or bending their neck. Some results are visible right away, with the ultimate effect of the lift enjoyed within a few months.

Neck lifts can be performed on their own as a standalone procedure, especially for patients who don’t need a full facelift yet because they are satisfied with the look of their face. These patients may be noticing wrinkling or sagging on their neck and want to have surgery to make their neck area match their upper facial appearance. However, neck lifts are commonly paired with other facial rejuvenation surgeries like facelift surgery, brow lift surgery to repair sagging brows, and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) to enhance an aging eye area.

Yes. Dr. Iteld has pioneered a comprehensive preventative approach to post-procedure pain that allows patients to recover smoothly from a neck lift without the need for opioids.
