Raise a Sagging Forehead in Chicago

The caveman look has been out of style just about as long as cavemen themselves, which means a heavy, sagging forehead is not typically something people hope for when it comes to their appearance. A brow lift at Chicago’s Iteld Plastic Surgery is the ideal procedure for addressing that constantly furrowed look or asymmetry, allowing for a more welcoming and alert expression. Using modern techniques, Dr. Lawrence Iteld can help women and men alike to leave unwanted scowls in the Stone Age.

How a Brow Lift Works

We tend to use our brows when we make facial expressions to convey surprise, anger, fear, and other emotions. Given how often we raise our eyebrows (especially if we are easily startled or amused), it’s common for the forehead area to start sagging as we get older. Damage due to exposure to sunlight and genetic factors also contribute to this problem, as do weakening forehead muscles that can cause a noticeable hooded appearance around the eyes.

If you’re frustrated because others constantly ask if you’re unhappy or tired due to your heavy brow, a brow lift is the ideal solution (unless you actually are always unhappy or tired, in which case: Lighten up and get some rest!).

A brow lift is also sometimes called a forehead lift or forehead rejuvenation. During a brow lift, surgery is performed to lift the skin and tissue around the forehead and eyebrow areas to create a refreshed, youthful, and attractive appearance on the upper third of the face. The muscle may also need to be repositioned, and excess skin will be removed.

Brow Lift FAQs

Patients will experience some bruising and swelling right after a brow lift. Dr. Iteld will tape or loosely wrap the forehead area to keep the swelling and bruising down, and a thin tube may also be attached for drainage. Dr. Iteld will provide instructions for post-surgery care, along with advice on caring for incisions sites and drains, signs of complications to watch out for, when to attend follow-up appointments, and when it will be safe to resume normal activities.

It’s important for patients to keep their head elevated while sleeping and to avoid heavy physical exercise during recovery. A brow lift provides lasting results, but the skin and tissue on the brow area will continue to be affected by aging and skin damage from sun exposure in the future.

The best candidates for a brow lift include patients who notice that their lines and wrinkles around the forehead area give them an “angry” appearance. Patients who are physically healthy, are non-smokers, and who maintain realistic goals and expectations are thought to be ideal brow lift candidates.

A brow lift alters contours only on the uppermost portion of the face. Though changes there can be effective at improving your overall look, patients who want to lift contours lower down can choose from blepharoplasty for the eyelids and a facelift for the area that ranges from the midface to the jawline. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Daxxify are nonsurgical solutions for the problem of horizontal forehead lines, which can be an appealing option for anyone who wants a refreshed look without incisions or sutures.

Before having a brow lift, you will discuss the pros and cons of the procedure during your consultation. Dr. Lawrence Iteld will review your medical history with you to ensure that you’re in good shape for surgery—and it’s important to be upfront about any medications you’re taking or any previous surgeries you have had.

After examining the face and taking measurements, Dr. Iteld will ask you about your motives and expectations for the surgery and explain the risks and benefits of a brow lift.

Patients who are smokers will be expected to refrain from smoking before and after the brow lift surgery, as nicotine use increases the likelihood of complications. They should also avoid taking some medications such as blood thinners and anti-inflammatory drugs, or even certain herbal supplements that would make bleeding more likely for two weeks.
