Get a More Alert Look with a Blepharoplasty at Chicago’s Iteld Plastic Surgery
The results of a blepharoplasty can quite literally be eye opening. That’s because time and gravity work together to gradually cause your eyelids to droop and sag, resulting in a perpetual look of tiredness and disinterest. Problems can occur under the eyes, with bags developing. With eyelid surgery, Chicago-based plastic surgeon Lawrence Iteld, MD, can counter that laxity, giving you the freedom to look as awake and alert as you want and removing the bags.

How Eyelid Surgery Works
You have two sets of eyelids—upper and lower—so there are two different ways eyelid surgery can work.
Sagging in the upper lid due to a loss of elasticity not only creates a tired look, it can also cause skin to intrude into your field of vision. The blepharoplasty procedure to correct this involves Dr. Iteld removing a small amount of skin and hiding a small scar in the creases. The result is a tighter upper eyelid that looks natural and functions properly with a virtually invisible scar.
On the lower lid, loss of elasticity can cause the skin to droop and pull away from the bottom portion of the eye. Fat beneath the skin can also shift and settle into pouches that are quite literally bags under your eyes. Eyelid surgery for this problem involves repositioning tissue and tightening skin as needed to make the area appear smoother. Note that this eyelid surgery is about improving texture and shadowing. Pigment within the skin requires other treatments.

Blepharoplasty FAQs
The eyes are a sensitive area. Dr. Iteld performs every eyelid surgery with care, but patients should still anticipate some bruising and swelling to appear shortly after their procedure, then resolve in the following days. There should be no need to wear an eyepatch, so you won’t need to raid the Halloween bin for that pirate costume.
With Dr. Iteld using his carefully developed techniques, a narcotics-free recovery is absolutely possible. He approaches each eyelid surgery with the idea that post-procedure pain should be prevented, not assumed. That means no opioids will be necessary. Many patients find that Tylenol is all they need as they recover from a blepharoplasty.
The best candidates for a blepharoplasty are those who have noticed a change in their appearance due to increased eyelid laxity. With four total lids to watch out for, chances are good that at least one will eventually show some signs of aging. Eyelid surgery patients should be in good general health, as well as know what the procedure will and won’t do for their appearance.
The uppermost parts of the face tend to go hand in hand, as it were, when it comes to showing signs of aging. A forehead can slump over time, creating a heavy, scowling look, which is why a brow lift can easily complement eyelid surgery. For lower areas, a facelift addresses sagging contours caused by shifting tissues.
To improve the skin’s tone and texture around the eyes, Iteld Plastic Surgery offers eTwo®, Sublative®, and Sublime®—each is nonsurgical and effective at smoothing out finer wrinkles and lines.
Given the fact that a facelift is for repositioning tissues on the middle and lower portions of the face, patients who want a more youthful look may also consider procedures and treatments for the rest of the face. A brow lift addresses contours above the eyes, while a blepharoplasty corrects drooping and sagging eyelids.
Crow’s feet to the sides of the eyes, as well as frown lines between the eyes and horizontal forehead lines, can be temporarily relaxed with BOTOX® and Daxxify injections. Discover the best treatment or combination of options for you by contacting Dr. Iteld and his team.
