We know you check out those magazine covers—the ones featuring celebrities with their backsides to the camera. Their large, round, shapely backsides. If you’ve ever wanted a photoshoot-worthy posterior of your own, Lawrence Iteld, MD, can help with a Brazilian butt lift at Chicago’s Iteld Plastic Surgery. The surgical procedure is ideal for anyone who wants to add volume to their buttocks, whether to address sagging or just to enjoy new, shapelier contours.

How a Brazilian Butt Lift Works
There are many ways to add volume to the buttocks, including injectable fillers and silicone implants. Both options have unique characteristics—and drawbacks. A Brazilian butt lift makes use of a patient’s own fat cells, harvested from somewhere else on the body and put to use where they’re actually wanted. Since this “filler” comes from you, there is no concern of an allergic reaction or rejection. We’re simply shifting you around.
Because liposuction can damage some fat cells as it removes them, and since a Brazilian butt lift requires healthy, intact fat cells in order to be successful, Dr. Iteld uses a special technique to harvest the needed cells from an area where they are plentiful. These cells are then purified to ensure they are high quality and will settle in their new home.
Once the fat cells are properly prepared, Dr. Iteld will inject them into the buttocks, using his experience and aesthetic eye to keep them symmetrical and proportional—but enhanced.
Choosing a qualified plastic surgeon is critical for a Brazilian butt lift in order to minimize the risk of lumps and other contour irregularities. Safety in all surgical procedures is very important—but none more so than Brazilian butt lifts. Dr. Iteld uses the newest, scientifically proven techniques to maximize your safety.

Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) FAQs
Expect to have a tender backside for a little while! Yes, there will be some surgery-related swelling and bruising, but everything will soon resolve into your new normal of round, full contours.
Keep in mind that the fat donor area will also be a little sore and will require time to heal. In all, expect to recover for anywhere from one to two weeks after a Brazilian butt lift.
Your recovery from surgery should not be a pain in the butt. There will be some discomfort after a Brazilian butt lift. Dr. Iteld’s techniques—the ones he personally developed—give patients time to heal without having to take any opioids. There’s no need to plan for days of recovery.
These techniques are also available for other lifts (arm lifts, body lifts, facelifts) and procedures, including tummy tucks, breast augmentation, and more.
Patients who choose to add volume with a Brazilian butt lift typically have one of two goals:
For those with an underwhelming backside due to genetics, the procedure offers a chance to get new contours. A Brazilian butt lift can make a naturally small or flat bottom rounder, which can help clothes to fit better and can make a body appear more proportional.
Patients whose backside used to be larger and firmer may want to address sagging due to weight loss and skin laxity. This reduction in volume can cause the skin to appear deflated, like a balloon that’s lost some air.
No matter the motivation, good butt lift candidates are healthy and maintain a generally stable weight.
Any significant weight loss has the potential to cause sagging, not just on the buttocks, but on the belly, breasts, face, and more. Loose skin that droops can be addressed on its own with a backside lift, or as part of a larger set of surgeries designed to give the entire body a slimmer look with better-defined contours.
Dr. Iteld can perform a tummy tuck for a saggy abdomen, a breast lift for drooping breasts, a facelift for jowls and other signs of shifting tissues, an arm lift for bat wings, and various other post-massive weight loss body contouring procedures as needed.
For a nonsurgical solution to facial sagging, Dr. Iteld offers Silhouette InstaLift™ to provide support for lifted facial contours. Profound Skin Tightening can also firm up a loose neck, in addition to smoothing out age-related wrinkles.
The best option for addressing sagging differs from person to person—and, of course, depends on the part or parts of the body where sagging is apparent. Dr. Iteld works with each patient to assess the condition of their skin and determine what route to take.
