Collagen keeps skin youthful and supple, but—unlike diamonds—the protein is not forever. Our skin’s natural collagen–replenishing processes slow over time, so levels drop as we go through our 20s and into our 30s, 40s, and beyond. Unfortunately, the world around us does further damage to our skin cells, all of which contributes to the development of wrinkles, uneven texture, a build-up of dead skin, blotchy pigmentation, and other blemishes and signs of aging. You have an ally in your fight against the world, however: Laser and light treatments are highly effective at restoring a clear, uniform, and glowing tone and texture. Give your skin the complete refresher it needs and reverse damage with the nonsurgical Candela Nordlys™ from Chicago’s Iteld Plastic Surgery.
The Candela Nordlys™ platform has three different light and laser options to choose, including Ellipse IPL™, Frax 1550 laser, and Nd:YAG 1064 laser. No two patients have identical skin concerns, so Candela Nordlys™ allows for customization to address specific concerns and conditions.

How Skin Resurfacing with Candela Nordlys™ Works
Your skin is constantly affected by chronological aging and other internal factors, as well as exposure to harsh agents like UV radiation from sunlight, weather extremes, pollutants, toxins, and cigarette smoke. It’s like a war zone against your skin out there!
Even the day-to-day facial expressions we make when communicating with others continually pull your skin out of shape. There are some inescapable factors that contribute to premature skin aging—like genetics—but your own habits also have a significant influence, which means that you can be your own worst enemies when it comes to maintaining a youthful look.
To combat all this, Candela Nordlys™ offers three techniques for rejuvenating skin on parts or all of the face:
Ellipse IPL™
Intense Pulsed Light is a light therapy as opposed to a laser resurfacing tool. It is a mild, gentle treatment that produces scattered pulses of light to remove unwanted blotches and hair without harming the skin’s surface. It addresses unwanted body hair, wrinkles, vascular and pigmented lesions, and more.
Frax 1550 Laser
Microscopic channels of light reach the deeper layers to promote the growth of collagen and healthy new cells. This repairs sun damage and makes skin look younger.
Nd:YAG 1064 Laser
This aspect of the Candela Nordlys™ system is a laser treatment that’s ideal for reducing redness from vascular lesions, like port wine stains and leg veins. SoftCool™ is combined with the laser treatments for your prolonged comfort during the procedure.
PRO-NOX to Relieve Pain and Anxiety
Dr. Iteld also offers PRO-NOX®, an advanced pain management system that puts you in control of your own comfort levels. If you want to calm any anxiety or dull the sensation of a laser treatment, you can simply hold a tube up to your mouth and nose and breathe in the 50/50 mix of nitrogen and oxygen. If you’re feeling comfortable—mentally and physically—you can choose to not use the tube. It’s that easy. Another benefit? Unlike some other anaesthetics, this mix quickly leaves your body, so you can be back to normal within a matter of minutes.

Candela Nordlys™ FAQs
Patients who want to address fine lines and wrinkles or enhance their overall skin quality and minimize surface-level imperfections on the face make great candidates for Candela Nordlys™. However, the light and laser treatments aren’t usually suited for patients who have active acne outbreaks, very dark skin tones that are prone to hyperpigmentation, excessive sagging skin and jowls, very deep wrinkles, or stretch marks on the body. If any of this applies to you, we can work with you to determine a better strategy.
Candela Nordlys™ patients can leave the Iteld Plastic Surgery office right away and resume their normal activities with little or no downtime—depending on what type of treatment they had. Keep in mind that deeper lasers usually require more downtime to ensure the skin heals properly. Swelling, redness, sensitivity, and peeling typically occur anywhere from a few days to a week after a treatment.
Laser skin resurfacing with Candela Nordlys™ is one of the most effective ways to tighten loose skin and create a more balanced skin tone. However, there are other nonsurgical options available that can be used in combination with the Candela Nordlys™ method—or as an alternative.
Radiofrequency treatments such as Sublative® and Sublime™ boost collagen production and stimulate skin cell turnover, while eTwo™ Skin Rejuvenation pairs infrared light with radiofrequency for firming skin.
Unlike Candela Nordlys™, if you also hope to reduce small, resistant fat areas, consider body contouring options like BodyTite, Morpheus8, or CoolSculpting®.
