The manufacturer refers to the FDA-approved Silhouette InstaLift™ as a device consisting of internal sutures featuring bi-directional cones. You’ll call it the treatment that made you look younger.
The middle doesn’t get enough credit. People tend to see the top as the pinnacle and the bottom as the foundation, but everything in between is important, too—especially when it comes to the face. The middle is where the cheeks are, and they can either be pleasantly round or sunken and hollow, sturdy or sagging, youthful or … well, old-looking. Because changing contours in the midface can create a particularly aged appearance over time, Lawrence Iteld, MD, offers Silhouette InstaLift™ at his Chicago-based practice.

How Silhouette InstaLift™ Works
When something sags, it needs to be pulled up and held in place again to maintain its original look. Skin is no different. While youthful tissue stays tight on its own, the passage of time (and the loss of collagen and other valuable elements in the skin) causes it to slide downward. The result is a flattened-out look.
Silhouette InstaLift™ allows Dr. Iteld to lift this sagging tissue and keep it in a more youthful position. It takes about 45 minutes for the sutures to be inserted under the skin, where they serve to hold it securely in place. Silhouette InstaLift™ also stimulates the growth of new collagen, which adds to the structural benefits and provides a pleasant roundness.
Collagen is a sturdy protein that works similar to a scaffold. Not only does it hold up tissue, but it also provides a “home” for hyaluronic acid molecules. These sugars can hold 1,000 times their weight in water, which makes them powerful tools in the quest for healthy, youthful, elevated skin.

Silhouette InstaLift™ FAQs
Before having Silhouette InstaLift™, discuss your expectations with Dr. Iteld during your consultation, and ask any questions you have about the procedure. Be sure to mention any cosmetic treatments you have had in the past, as well as any medications or supplements you are taking, as these can impact a new treatment’s results.
Healthy skin responds best to Silhouette InstaLift™—and all treatments—so be sure to get plenty of rest and hydrate well prior to your appointment.
Silhouette InstaLift™ provides a lifting effect that will be visible right away. There may be some initial swelling and tenderness, but these effects will fade quickly. If help is needed in this regard, patients can apply cold packs right after their Silhouette InstaLift™ session. Acetaminophen can help to reduce any discomfort.
Sleep on their back in an elevated position for three to five nights, be gentle when washing their face for the first five days, and avoid direct exposure to UV rays for a minimum of two weeks. Patients should wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup. Two weeks is also the length of time you should avoid high-impact sports after a Silhouette InstaLift™ treatment. Basically, treat your face gently and be careful.
In the following weeks and months, new collagen will soften harsh contours by increasing volume in the area and providing a gentle roundness. Then you can get back to your usual activities.
The Silhouette InstaLift™ treatment is recommended for anyone who wants a refreshed appearance but who does not want surgery or injections of dermal fillers. Surgical options tend to provide longer-lasting results, but require more downtime and recuperation afterward. Injectable fillers are less involved, but require more maintenance visits in order to maintain results. The internal sutures of Silhouette InstaLift™ are a good medium, providing results that last without requiring incisions and the associated healing required.
Good candidates have moderate laxity in their facial skin, are in good health, and are willing to follow aftercare advice. Silhouette InstaLift™ is not meant for patients who have allergies or foreign body sensitivities to plastic biomaterial or patients who have infections that affect the treatment area. It also is not a suitable option for patients with very thin and soft skin or thick, heavy skin on the face due to chronological aging.
Silhouette InstaLift® patients who want to further improve their facial contours may want to consider reducing a double chin with Kybella® (an injectable that breaks apart fat cells with a dietary acid) or CoolSculpting® (a completely non-invasive treatment that destroys fat cells by chilling them).
Morpheus8 or SkinTite treatments can address laxity that makes a “turkey neck” or even wobbly jowls lower on the face.
Patients who do want a surgical solution can choose a facelift to freshen up their contours from the middle of the face down, as well as liposuction to get rid of small, stubborn pockets of fat. Talk to Dr. Iteld and his team to find out which option, whether Silhouette InstaLift™ or something else, is best for you and the look you’re going for.
