Injectable Treatments for Reducing Cellulite at Chicago’s Iteld Plastic Surgery

Even people who are slim, who are healthy, and who have a highly active lifestyle can develop dimpled skin on their thighs and buttocks. Although cellulite is harmless and occurs on people of all weights and body shapes, this dreaded “orange peel” texture makes us less likely to want to flaunt our legs in a cute pair of shorts, skirt, or swimsuit. Now, those who find the dimpling less than desirable can say farewell to frustrating cellulite with targeted injections of QWO® from Chicago’s Iteld Plastic Surgery.

QWO® is a leading-edge, minimally invasive treatment approved by the FDA for treating cellulite on the buttocks. It’s the first treatment of its kind, replacing techniques that involve using blades and incisions to get smoother skin.

What is the Underlying Cause of Cellulite?

It’s called all kinds of funny nicknames—like “cottage cheese thighs,” “orange peel syndrome,” “hail damage,” and “the mattress phenomenon”—but many people consider cellulite to be no laughing matter. The unwanted dimpling occurs more frequently in women than in men. In fact, an estimated 90 percent of women have some form of skin condition, as opposed to just 10 percent of men. This is because of the way women’s fat, muscle, and connective tissues are distributed beneath the skin.

Despite what is commonly believed, cellulite has little to do with how much body fat you have or how firm your skin is. Genetics, age, hormones, and pregnancy are factors that may increase the risk of cellulite. Having thin, loose skin and gaining weight can also make cellulite look worse. The main factor, however, is strong connective tissue bands below the skin tightening around pockets of fat. The dense grouping of fat cells then pushes up against the surface, causing dimples to appear wherever the bands of collagen—known as septae—are found.

Topical creams are often ineffective solutions, and more invasive procedures can result in discomfort or unwanted side effects. Fortunately, QWO® is different.

How Does QWO® Work?

QWO®, otherwise known as “collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes”—is made up of several enzymes that break up collagen in the skin and encourage the growth of healthy tissue.
It works especially well because it treats the direct cause of the problem: the connective tissue bands. When injected beneath the surface of the skin, directly into the dimples, the enzymes dissolve collagen to release the tight, fibrous lines that are tethered to the skin. This allows fat cells to “spread out” more evenly, and it also promotes healthy collagen regeneration for thicker skin.

Procedure Spotlight

The QWO® treatment is straightforward, virtually painless (it’s said to cause even less discomfort than BOTOX®), and can be completed in about 10 minutes.

Am I a Good Candidate for QWO® Injections in Chicago?

Most adults who have dimpled buttocks due to the fibrous cords in the skin will be ideal candidates for this treatment—unless they have an active infection in the treatment area or allergies to the ingredients in QWO®.

What Can I Expect After a QWO® Treatment?

Some bruising and swelling may occur as a side effect of the injections, but no downtime is necessary, other than a possible recommendation to avoid strenuous activity for a day or two until the swelling resolves. To optimize results, patients will likely need to schedule three sessions spaced 21 days apart. Visible improvement to the appearance of cellulite typically develops around a month after the third round of QWO® injections.

Which Body Contouring Options Complement QWO®?

Along with QWO®, Morhpeus8 radiofrequency skin treatments are a popular choice for tightening loose or wrinkled skin and improving the appearance of cellulite. There are also more types of nonsurgical body contouring treatments available at Iteld Plastic Surgery, including BodyTite, which reduces fat and firms up loose skin on specific areas. eTwo™ skin rejuvenation is a treatment for stimulating collagen production and forcing existing collagen fibers to contract to enhance the quality of the skin while reducing acne scars, stretch marks, and wrinkles.
