I can tell you how well my non-opioid protocol works and how easy your recovery will be. But nothing says it better than patients sharing their own experiences. One of my breast reduction patients relayed the following to me:

My patient’s experience

A woman in her 60s came to us for breast reduction and breast lift. Since she lives outside the Chicago area, she and her husband decided to stay at the Four Seasons Hotel, which is in the same complex as the Surgery Center. She didn’t require any pre-surgery medication and was ready early Monday morning for her procedure. Following surgery with my non-opioid protocol, she spent the afternoon sleeping and resting in her hotel room and had room service bring dinner. The next morning, they went down to the restaurant for breakfast and walked across the street to the drugstore for some extra-strength Tylenol. After resting for a while, they walked around the 900 Michigan Avenue Mall. When they were hungry, they had a light lunch, rested again in the afternoon, and went back down for dinner. Early to bed that night. She only took Tylenol that evening to be cautious but wasn’t in any pain or discomfort. That was the end of that for her. On Wednesday, just two days after her procedure, they came to the office for me to do her post-op check. From my office, they went directly to O’Hare Airport and flew home. I had arranged for a plastic surgeon in her hometown to do the follow-up and remove her sutures. She reported that with very little restrictions and no pain, she was back to her normal life within days of surgery.

Her acquaintance’s experience

My patient recently ran into an acquaintance who had a breast reduction procedure done by a different surgeon. This 40-year-old woman took opioids following surgery. The acquaintance told her that she spent the ten days following her surgery sick from being on oxycodone, but it was the only thing that controlled her pain. She felt queasy and dizzy most of the time and spent those ten days either in bed or on the couch; she wasn’t able to do much of anything during that time. And she continued to convalesce for weeks afterward with greatly restricted activities.

The choice is yours

Which way do you want to recover? How long do you want to wait to get your life back on track? Exactly! It’s your choice. But not really, because when you come to our practice, we don’t offer the opioid route. For just about every surgical procedure I perform, we use my tried-and-true non-opioid recovery protocol. And that means you’ll have a shorter and easier recovery.
